The Memon Industrial Technical Institute

The Memon Industrial Technical Institute (MITI) is a vocational and technical training institute in Landhi, a small town in Karachi, Pakistan. The school offers an extensive technology and IT curriculum for its male students, however, the same courses are not available to its female students. The courses for female students were highly limited to dress-making, beautician and esthetician skills and other similar classes. This is why implementing my course at MITI was of utmost importance to me; allowing me to ensure that the female students had equal access to Computer Science classes as their male counterparts.
At MITI I was able to begin teaching my course to a class of around 80 girls, ranging from the age of 16 to their late 20s. The girls expressed particular interest in using Computer Science for freelance projects, describing their desire to work and become financially self-sufficient. I was also able to conduct a teacher training workshop so that the course can continue being taught to the girls in MITI.
